ENGLISH The Hof van Borlo is a large square farm dating from 1677 located in the south of the rolling Haspengouw hills, traditionally an agricultural region. A residential community is growing on the farm: There are now approximately 20 of us living in ten housing units and we are in the process of the rest of the ecological conversion to 13 units. Who are we? The residents are aged between 1 and 74 and busy doing different things: someone is studying, others are working in education, care, social work, gardening, woodworking or museum, some are retired. We like to eat and live in a healthy way and we would like to be inspired to start living in a more ecological way. Furthermore, 1 dog, 2 cats and 10 or so chickens live in the yard. Besides the residents, a lot of other people visit us: neighbours or volunteers who help out, friends or family, cyclists who sometimes stay overnight via Welcome to my Garden,... We like to make it cosy. The farm also includes 1.4 ha of agricultural land, on which we grow vegetables and small fruit, making us self-sufficient almost all year round. In the summer period, we sell our vegetables to the local residents. Furthermore, there is an orchard, a greenhouse, a forest under construction, a large permaculture vegetable garden, compost that we make ourselves, flowers, a wood workshop and even a swimming pond. And so much more, but you can come and discover it! This year's program includes preserving fruits and vegetables, the building of an apiary and various workshops on ecological living. Wwoofers who can work independently and want to learn something are very welcome! The activities are diverse: you can choose to help more in the field (sowing, planting, harvesting, pruning,...) or in ecological cultivation (with wood, clay and lime-hemp insulation). NEDERLANDS Het Hof van Borlo is een grote vierkantshoeve van 1677 gelegen in het zuiden van het glooiende Haspengouw, van oudsher een landbouwstreek. In de hoeve groeit een woongemeenschap: We wonen nu met ongeveer 20 mensen in 10 wooneenheden en we zijn bezig met de rest van de ecologische verbouwing naar 13 units. Wie zijn wij? De bewoners zijn tussen 1 en 74 jaar oud en bezig met verschillende dingen: iemand studeert, anderen zijn werkzaam in het onderwijs, de zorg, de sociale sector, tuinaanleg, houtbewerking of museum, sommigen zijn op pensioen. We eten en leven graag gezond en willen graag inspireren en vooral geïnspireerd worden om ecologischer te gaan leven. Verder wonen er 1 hond, 2 katten en 10-tal kippen op het erf. Naast de bewoners komt er ook heel wat ander volk over de vloer: buren of vrijwilligers die mee helpen, vrienden of familie, fietsers die soms blijven overnachten via Welcome in my Garden. We maken het graag gezellig. De boerderij hoort ook 1,4 ha landbouwgrond, waarop we groenten en kleinfruit kweken waardoor we bijna het jaar rond zelfvoorzienend zijn. In de zomerperiode verkopen we onze groenten aan de buurtbewoners. Verder is er een boomgaard, een serre, een bos in aanleg, een grote permacultuur moestuin, compost die we zelf maken, bloemen, een houtatelier en zelfs een zwemvijver. En nog zoveel meer, maar dat mag je komen ontdekken! Dit jaar staat er op het programma: inmaken van groenten en fruit, het bouwen van een bijenhal en verschillende workshops rond ecologisch leven. Wwoofers die zelfstandig kunnen werken en iets willen bijleren zijn zeer welkom! Het werk is divers: je kan kiezen of je meer op het veld (zaaien, planten, oogsten, snoeien...) of in de ecologische verbouwing (o.a. met hout, leem en kalkhennepisolatie) mee werkt. Dans la ferme, une communauté résidentielle se développe : Nous sommes maintenant environ 20 à vivre dans dix unités d'habitation et nous sommes en train de convertir le reste de la zone écologique en 13 unités. Qui sommes-nous ? Les résidents sont âgés de 1 à 74 ans et s'adonnent à différentes activités : certains étudient, d'autres travaillent dans l'éducation, les soins, le travail social, le jardinage, le travail du bois ou les musées, d'autres encore sont à la retraite. Nous aimons manger et vivre de manière saine et nous aimerions être inspirés pour commencer à vivre de manière plus écologique. En outre, il y a 1 chien, 2 chats et 10 poules dans la cour. Outre les résidents, beaucoup d'autres personnes nous rendent visite : des voisins ou des bénévoles qui donnent un coup de main, des amis ou de la famille, des cyclistes qui passent parfois la nuit via Welcome to my Garden,... Nous aimons rendre l'endroit accueillant. La ferme comprend également 1,4 ha de terres agricoles, sur lesquelles nous cultivons des légumes et des petits fruits, ce qui nous rend autosuffisants presque toute l'année. Pendant la période estivale, nous vendons nos légumes aux résidents locaux. Il y a aussi un verger, une serre, une forêt en construction, un grand potager en permaculture, du compost que nous fabriquons nous-mêmes, des fleurs, un atelier de bois et même un étang de baignade. Et bien d'autres choses encore, mais vous pouvez venir les découvrir ! Cette année, le programme comprend : la préservation des fruits et des légumes, la construction d'un rucher et divers ateliers sur la vie écologique. Les wwoofers qui peuvent travailler de manière indépendante et qui veulent apprendre quelque chose sont les bienvenus ! Les activités sont diversifiées : vous pouvez choisir d'aider davantage dans les champs (semis, plantation, récolte, taille, ...) ou en éco-construction (notamment avec des isolants en bois, en argile et en chaux-chanvre).
